History
We are honoured to have been appointed as official agents for the sale of the esteemed collection of Mr Drew Pritchard, antique dealer extraordinaire and star of TV show ‘Salvage Hunters’
This 1952 Volkswagen Beetle Sunroof deluxe model is from the last year of split window production and is offered from the private collection of Drew Pritchard in remarkably original condition
The very last of the split window Deluxe Beetles built after April 13th 1952 came with opening external air vents located on the rear portion of the front quarter panel, known as “Crotch Coolers”, this example being one of those models
First registered in the UK on March 1st 1964 as confirmed by the original buff log book retained on file, this highly collectible final year production split window Beetle is offered with a substantial history file and has benefitted from careful and methodical preservation ‘body off’ restoration work under Drew’s ownership by respected marque specialists Type 2 Detectives
During the sympathetic restoration a number of sensible upgrades were fitted that include a hidden disc brake conversion and larger rear brakes, Old speed 50s dual carb engine fitted with a displacement of 1293cc mated to a later 1950s synchromesh gearbox. All of the aforementioned upgrades combined allow the car to comfortably cruise all day at 60-70 mph, making this example very usable in modern traffic conditions
The majority of the bodywork retains its original paint-work and all the glass is original to the car as is the sunroof, which retains its original vinyl and is incredibly rare to see! The bumpers and over riders are correct for the year and also very rare items that are seldom seen
The interior has been carefully restored with ‘new old stock’ fabric to the front and rear seats, ‘NOS’ colour coded rubber floor mats with coco mats to cover, reproduction German manufactured carpet and the rest of the interior retains its original paint and trim
Supplied with extensive service records throughout the 1960s, original buff log book, original owners handbook in German, Motor Fuel ration book and all receipts relating to the recent restoration makes this example unrepeatable!
