History

The DB6 Short Chassis Volante is one of rarest convertible models constructed by Aston Martin and remains one of the most desirable. With just thirty seven examples built during its one year of production (1965-66)  the ‘SCV’ was an interim model which bridged the gap between the existing DB5 Convertible and the forthcoming DB6 Volante

The first open Aston Martin to be named ‘Volante’, the Short Chassis was based on the same wheelbase as the DB5C and adopted a number of DB6 features which included two piece bumpers front and rear, DB6 seats and DB6 tail lights

In addition a number of minor mechanical revisions were made before production ceased in 1966 following the introduction of the DB6 Volante, which featured a visually longer wheel base and Kamm Tail rear end styling

This late production example was the twenty-seventh chassis constructed and benefits from comprehensive service history dating back to 1981

Maintained by respected former main agent Robin Hamilton throughout the 1980s, this Volante was upgraded to Vantage specification at that time with the fitment of triple 45 DCOE Weber Carburettors, C Type Vantage cams and the fitment of power steering

Acquired by the vendor in 1994, a private UK based Aston Martin collector, who has used and enjoyed the Volante for over a quarter of a century!

Between 2006-08 the vendor commissioned a no expense spared restoration by highly regarded marque specialists Marksdanes and Goodwood Green Ltd. During that time the chassis and body received extensive renovation (images and invoices on file) and the engine was fully rebuilt to 4.2 Litre specification fitted with Cosworth pistons etc

In more recent times the maintenance of this significant Aston Martin has been entrusted to leading specialists Aston Engineering

Offered ‘fresh to market’ following twenty six years of private ownership, this stunning Short Chassis Volante is presented in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition. In our opinion this is one of the most well sorted and best driving examples extant and is ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian
