History

The basis of this outstanding 911 is an original and desirable 2.7S model constructed in 1977 which has been the subject of an exhaustive restoration by marque specialists Retrocar, fully rebuilt to exacting 2.8 RSR specifications

The brief was to build a faithful evocation of the iconic 2.8 RSR, retaining the essence of the original car but with subtle improvements for everyday use (at a cost well in excess of EUR 300,000) with a tractable and powerful engine setup, fully adjustable suspension and comfortable interior trimmed in natural leather, usable for both Sunday morning blasts or hard track day use

The body was stripped to bare metal and zinc silicate blasted, 2.8 RSR steel flared wheel arches were tin welded to the body with all necessary reinforcements and the trailing arm brackets were repositioned. The bonnet was replaced with a lightweight GFK and Kevlar unit, the rear boot lid was replaced with a lightweight GFK ducktail unit with aluminium frame, lightweight GFK front and rear bumpers and original 2.7 RS 85 Litre fuel tank. Dinamat acoustic insulation was fitted and the underside of the body was treated with protective textured coating. An original set of Fuchs wheels were fitted 9’’-11’’ front/rear shod with Michelin TB5 tires

The interior was fitted with a four-point classic roll cage trimmed in natural leather with RSR type racing bucket seats trimmed in natural leather and Corduroy. FIA approved REPA style harnesses were also fitted with lightweight carpet, front and rear heated windows, lightweight side windows and an electronic heating system

The engine was replaced with a race prepared Magnesium 7R unit (the original 911/83 block supplied with the car) fitted with original 2.7RS 019 MFI pump built to 2.8 spec, Mahle 92mm 2.8 RSR Pistons and conrods, dual ignition with original Bosch HKZ, RSR flywheel and Sachs sport clutch, high performance exhaust, front RSR oil cooler and semisolid mounts giving the car scintillating performance akin to the original 2.8 RSR model

The transmission is a 915 gearbox fitted with short ratio gears and 40% limited slip differential, reinforced mounts and shafts and Webo shifter. The suspension setup features RSR short trailing arms, RSR adjustable sway bars front and rear, Bilstein coilovers 1 way adjustable which have been professionally tuned by Technoshock with Elephant Racing sphericals and Polybronze bearings

The braking system was uprated with RSR front and rear callipers and discs with upgraded hoses, Ferodo DSUNO pads, upgraded front aluminium hubs with an RSR adjustable twin master cylinder pedal box

The end result is nothing short of spectacular and this car provides all the performance and looks of an original 2.8 RSR with a host of subtle modern upgrades making it both extremely usable, reliable and ferociously quick in the process. Beautifully finished in Porsche paint to sample ‘Fashion Grey’ (61H Modegrau Line 90) coachwork and supplied with UK V5 registration, this ‘Hot-Rod’ 911 is fully run in and ready to give its new owner serious smiles for miles
